About us
Hi, I'm Joichi, after competing and training in Japan under Hidehiko Yoshida ( Olympic gold medalist), I was invited as a training partner for Antoine Valois - Fortier ( Olympic bronze medialist) by Judo Canada.
Coming from Kyoto , Japan a particularly notable region on the kosen judo scene, I want to share my love of judo and Kosen Judo.

What is Kosen Judo?
Created at the end of 19th century Kosen Judo is a variation of the Kodokan judo competitive ruleset
Unlike mainstream Kodokan competition rules, kosen rules allow hikikomi (pulling-in), enabling competitors to transition to ne-waza by dragging their opponent down without using a recognised nage-waza technique (analogous to pulling guard)
Kosen judo allows extended fighting time without interruption on the ground (Newaza) similarly to Brazilian jiu jitsu
Why a Kosen Judo class?
Kosen judo is an alternative style of Judo with different rule sets. In addtion to tachi waza (throwing techniques) like in traditional Judo, Kosen Judo allows leg grabs and unlimited Ne waza fights (groud technique).

Q1, If you have obtained any Ranks in other martialart (Judo and Bjj ect..), do you have to take the Gatame Kosen Judo curriculum from the Sankyu(Level1), or can you start from the Syodan level?
A, Must start from Sankyu(Level1).
Q2, Are there any conditions to become a member or student?
A, There are no conditions. Anyone can start.
Q3, Does training or promotion in other fields affect it?
A, If you reach 2nd dan, you will be qualified to teach Kosen Judo at the dojo.
Q4, Can you immediately challenge the next rank after completing Sankyu(Level1)?
A, Yes, you can immediately challenge the next rank.
